The Zurich-based band EMZYG was founded in 2019 by musicians Gianna Bollinger, Seraina Lutta and Sersha Rafferty. In 2020, Bianca and Lara Perez joined EMZYG, forming a quintet that has since been making waves in the Zurich music scene. EMZYG’s musical journey is marked by a diverse range of influences and styles. Their songs traverse the realms of kraut rock and psychedelic rock while often incorporating elements of classic rock-pop and idiosyncratic alternative indie. They draw inspiration from artists and bands like Nice Bisquit, Ashinoa, Wolf Alice, and CAN. As a musical project, EMZYG is driven by various creative impulses and focuses. In addition to their text-based and instrumental expression in their songs, social interaction and networking with fellow music creators play a significant role, especially with other FLINTA artists. Behind EMZYG lies the intention, both artistically and socially, to carve out their unique musical language rather than conforming to mainstream trends, allowing for deviation and non-conformity with the familiar.
