Alain Roche is a Swiss pianist, composer, and performer. After two decades dedicated to creating music for dance and theater, he now focuses on his own solo piano compositions. The concept of transformation lies at the heart of his artistic research and creations. Like the morning’s blue hour transitioning from night to day, Alain Roche is fascinated by natural transformations. Over the years, these fleeting moments have become a major source of inspiration for his compositions. He chooses these suspended instants, where everything changes by the second, to connect with his audience. Through unique artistic proposals, whether outdoors with his airborne piano for the innovative project PIANO VERTICAL or indoors with BLUE HOUR, an acoustic ground-level concert, he creates immersive experiences. During the 2023-2024 season, he performed a world-unique musical endeavor: from the winter solstice to the summer solstice, playing for 182 consecutive mornings at dawn during the blue hour, suspended with his vertical piano, inviting over 15,000 people to gaze at the sky and experience a daily renewal of beauty. Alain is invited in August 2024 to the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, where he performs Gabriel Fauré’s “Hymne à Apollon,” rearranged by Victor Le Masne, while suspended in the air with his Vertical Piano at the heart of Stade de France. In front of 80,000 spectators and several hundred million television viewers, he performs a duet with tenor Benjamin Bernheim, dressed by designer Kevin Germanier and directed by Thomas Jolly. Alain Roche offers a profound musical experience that evokes simplicity and the essence of a sky, a moment, and everyday life.
